Due to the pandemic situation, there has been uncertainty regarding all the cricket events which were scheduled to be played during the year 2020. The same situation happened with CPL 2020 where WICB had been working with sponsors and players to announce the confirmed CPL 2020 start date. After reviewing all the information carefully the management of CPL 2020 has decided that the tournament will be started on the 18th of August 2020.
CPL 2020 Schedule Changes
There have been quite a lot of changes to be made in the CPL 2020 schedule as this time the tournament will be quite shorter than earlier editions. As per CPL 2020 news, it has been confirmed that there will be two matches scheduled to be played from Tuesday to Saturday and this time no playoffs will be played. Instead, it has been decided that two semi-finals will replace the play-offs to complete the tournament in a shorter period of time.
CPL 2020 Venue
The management of CPL 2020 has revealed that the whole tournament will be played in Trinidad and Tobago as the CPL 2020 venue and the main reason is that it’s the least impacted country in the Caribbean Region related to the virus.
The organizer of CPL 2020 has revealed that CPL 2020 Trinidad and Tobago will be played behind closed doors to make sure the safety and security of all the players and management of CPL 2020. The CPL 2020 Trinidad venue can provide an added advantage to the home team which is Trinbago Knight Riders who are already considered as one of the strongest teams on paper.
The Caribbean Premier League operations manager Michael Hall revealed that the tournament is subject to the Government Approval but he is quite hopeful that the short CPL 2020 tournament will take place in Trinidad and Tobago because of the least impact it has related to pandemic.
CPL 2020 Safety Guidelines
The WICB has made it very clear to all the players participating in the CPL 2020 that everyone needs to reach Trinidad by August 1 to quarantine them before the tournament starts.
There will be no deductions in the player’s salary considering it’s a shorter event but it has been confirmed by the management that 30% match fees will be reduced for all the match officials. Earlier, it was announced that a player’s salary will also be deducted but that decision has been changed and given a sense of relief to the players who are dependent on the income of CPL 2020.
There will be no crowd attendance in any of the CPL 2020 Trinidad matches to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the much-awaited CPL 2020 tournament.
Currently, the West Indies Cricket Board is struggling with the economic crises so it’s very important for the cricket board as well as the management and sponsors of CPL 2020 to successfully hold the tournament with all the necessary precautions which might be able to provide some relief to the WICB in the bad economic situation.
Currently. West Indies Cricket team is in the UK and they are also set to play a test series against England which will also to be played behind closed doors to ensure the player’s safety and security.
