First of all, Wahab Riaz is the current Peshawar Zalmi squad 2021 captain. Wahab has been playing consistently in many domestic T20 leagues and T20Is for the Pakistan cricket team. Along with that, he is the spearhead of the Peshawar Zalmi bowling line-up. Wahab is also the highest wicket-taker in the history of Peshawar Zalmi, with 76 wickets in 55 matches.
PZ has retained some players from the previous edition as well. The likes of Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, and Liam Livingstone will represent the team again.
In the most prestigious platinum category, Peshawar Zalmi managed to get David Miller in the squad. Miller is regarded as one of the best-attacking middle-order batsmen and has proved his worth in T20 leagues all around the world. Hopefully, he will live up to his name in the upcoming PSL as well.
The picks in the diamond category by PZ are exceptional as well. Mujeeb ur Rehman, the 19 y/o Afghanistan off-spin maestro will be a part of the Peshawar Zalmi PSL 6 squad. Moreover, Sherfane Rutherford from the West Indies will also represent the Yellow Storm.
Amad Butt made it to the team from the Gold category. Amad is a handy all-rounder who bowls right-arm medium-fast and can play the role of the finisher in batting. Apart from him, the silver, emerging, and supplementary picks of the franchise will also add great strength to the team. Players like Imam-ul-Haq, Ravi Bopara, Umaid Asif, and more will be playing in the Peshawar Zalmi PSL 6 squad.
PZ 2021 Team Coaches
There is nothing wrong with saying that Peshawar Zalmi has got great team management. Firstly, the two-time ICC World T20 winning, and the 2017 Pakistan Super League winning captain, Darren Sammy, will be the head coach of the Peshawar Zalmi squad 2021. Besides Sammy, the legendary opening batsman from South Africa, Hashim Amla, will be fulfilling the duty of being the batting coach.
Mohammad Akram will be serving the team as the Director of Cricket Operations as well as the bowling coach. Last but not the least, Arshad Khan is the team manager of Peshawar Zalmi.
Peshawar Zalmi Team History
As we mentioned earlier, Peshawar Zalmi has been consistent throughout every season of the PSL. They have qualified for the playoffs in each edition and became the champions in the second one. To begin with, PZ finished the group stage at the number one spot in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League. However, they lost both the qualifier and eliminator 2 to take the bronze medal home.
The second season again saw them qualifying for the playoffs by surpassing every team in the group stage. This time though, it was their moment. Even though they lost the first qualifier by just one run in a nail-biter against QG, they defeated KK in the second eliminator. Now it was time for their revenge over Quetta. Peshawar Zalmi one-sidedly defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final by 58 runs to become the champions.
Afterward, they were close to defending their title in 2018 but lost to Islamabad United in the final. Came 2019 and PZ is again in the final of the tournament. This time it was Quetta Gladiators who had the last laugh in the grand-final. Last year, Peshawar Zalmi finished at the 4th spot in the group stage and got eliminated in the second eliminator by Lahore Qalandars, who lost the final to Karachi Kings.
