DC Team History

The Delhi Capitals team was known as the Delhi Daredevils until 2018. The name was changed to suit Delhi’s identity as it is the Capital of India. Now looking at the history of the franchise, then Delhi qualified for the playoffs in the very first season of the IPL, but unfortunately got knocked out in the semifinals. The same happened in the 2009 season. They were eliminated in the semis once again and exited the tournament as the 3^rd best team.

Afterward, they didn’t have much success in the 2010 and 11 seasons. Got out of the tournament in the group stage both times. The 2011 season was the worst for them as they finished at the last spot among the 10 teams. In 2012, they were once again playing in the playoffs, and once again got eliminated with the bronze medal. From 2013 o 2018, it was nothing but a downfall for the Delhi side. They were either ending the tournament at the last spot in the group stage or finishing at the 2^nd or 3^rd last one.

Finally, it was 2019 which broke the shackles and Delhi played in the playoffs again. But they were eliminated in the knockouts the same. The last season was the best in their history as they went on to play the final. They ended as the 2^nd best team in the group and were confident in the final as well. Unfortunately, Mumbai Indians proved out to be slightly better in both batting and bowling departments.
