It’s been officially announced by the former South African Batting Legend Herschelle Gibbs who used to the great striker of the ball has joined Euro T20 Slam as a head coach for Rotterdam Rhinos, franchise team from the Netherlands.
Proteas legend has previous coaching experience Afghanistan’s domestic T20 league and Kuwait’s national squad.
It’s exciting to see a player who played the game of cricket in an aggressive manner through his professional career will now be coaching the young players from The Netherlands in one of the franchise. Gibbs is also only the 9th player in the history of ODI cricket to score three consecutive ODI centuries and he had the chance of scoring four consecutive centuries but was left three runs short (unbeaten) against Bangladesh due to the target being small.
The South African legend was also being named in the World Test XI by ICC in 2004 along with his greatest memorable innings against Australia where he scored 175 off just 111 balls leading South Africa to win one of the most Iconic ODI matches ever.
Gibbs is coaching the franchise from the Netherlands and he even got a record against Netherland cricket team as well wherein 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup he smashed six sixes off the bowling of Daan van Bunge becoming the 1st player to do so at that time and maybe that historical memorable achievement still lies in the head of the Netherlands and Rotterdam Rhinos offered him the coaching position.
In his greatest ODI career, he has achieved 17 times Man Of The Match awards making him the ultimate champion of the limited-overs cricket. He has played in tournament and leagues all around the world and his vast experience will help a great deal in helping young Netherland cricket to achieve something spectacular in coming years.
Gibbs has proved himself in various different T20 Franchises all around the world and he has accomplished many Individual records playing in different leagues which helped his franchises to lead or win the tournaments. Apart from his great career, Gibbs has also been involved in different controversies likewise smoking marijuana, match-fixing allegations, racist comments and so on but those all things are in past and now he has proven his worth as a coach for Qatar and in Afghanistan.
The official draft of Euro T20 Slam 2019 is scheduled to take place on 19th of July and it’s expected that the head coach of Rotterdam Rhinos will be available at the draft to pick the complete squad for the inaugural season of T20 Slam.
